Brew the espresso or strong coffee and set aside.
In a small saucepan, combine the pumpkin puree, sugar, and pumpkin pie spice.
Heat the mixture over low heat until warmed through.
Add the brewed espresso to the pumpkin mixture and stir well.
In another saucepan, heat the milk until steaming (but not boiling).
Froth the milk using a frother or whisk until creamy.
Pour the pumpkin coffee mixture into a mug.
Gently pour the frothed milk over the coffee mixture.
Add vanilla extract and stir to combine.
Top with whipped cream and a sprinkle of pumpkin pie spice.
